Collection of personal papers, research and manuscript materials, and family memorabilia of Dr. Lillian Snyder. Dr. Snyder worked as Director of the Continuing Education Program for Social Workers for Maryland's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and later as professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Western Illinois University. Snyder was a direct descendant of Emile Baxter, founding member of the Icarian community of Nauvoo, IL, and she helped found the Center for Icarian Studies at WIU. The collection primarily consists of social work articles, reports, and related materials from 1970-1980; and a collection of nineteenth-century school books owned by Snyder's grandparents, Elizabeth and Alfred Baxter. Other materials include correspondence; clippings; a memorial to her mother, Florence B. Snyder; and a manuscript of the book, The Search for Brotherhood, Peace, and Justice: The Story of Icaria.
